In cleaning up the studio, I found many of the children’s toys. Kids are all grown up now and cast about the world on wonderful adventures. I remain here, converting a child’s bedroom into a happy place for the clichéd mid-life crisis I intend to enjoy. When I wonder if the kids think of me as often as I think of them, I will often receive coincidental communication from one of them. Today’s was a phone call from the UK asking about the fit of a suit jacket for matriculation. Hey, I was just thinking about you, I am packing up your toys. He needed help immediately and had no time for chitchat. Okay. Once we established the correct jacket size, he relaxed. You are doing what? Going through my toys? I explained more and he said, have you gone through my old nightstand? I said, no, no, I am just making space for my studio. He said, I left you something in the top drawer. Really! And he had kept this secret lo, these many months! Delightful. Inside the drawer was a Tiffany blue box and I was agog. Open it, he said flatly. Behold, reader, the gift I found boxed so preciously for me. Eep, I cried. Love you, call again soon. Chuckles all around.
