Notes From a Weak Connection

Literally and figuratively. First, I have learned a lot today after unboxing my new prescription Meta glasses. I purposefully waited 4 days after receiving them to open them at the cottage and I delighted in creating a stop-motion video of their entrance into my life.

I am proud of myself about this.

It was a great way to start my day and mark the beginning of what I hope to be a lifelong creative project. My eyes haven’t changed since my last test two years ago, so I thought, why not use my benefits to get Meta glasses. I have been daydreaming of this day ever since because it means my social media is now live and the website can start building content. A month of careful planning to leave a piece of me here forever (or until a payment is due) has finally borne fruit.

But starting this at the cottage with a very weak internet connection is robbing me of a bit of the fun. On a day when I am learning how to use the glasses, how to use CapCut, and how to tweak the social media accounts, uploading 47 images to make a nine-second GIF with Potatonet is not anyone’s cup of tea. But it is done and I shall think no more on it.

Secondly, I have blocked everyone I know from my WW account. Nothing of my fearful daily self is connected to Worth Wondering and that is going to be the key to the freedom of being myself. I have censored myself for far too long out of fear and maybe some embarrassment, and I am committing to myself that I get to be real in the WW space. I have invested time and money to have this anonymity, and I don’t want to let myself down anymore.

I am let down enough regularly so I shouldn’t keep doing that to me. My personal connections are also weak and I feel that most profoundly on weekends such as this: It is Thanksgiving in Canada. Things could be much better but I have to make decisions that put me at risk in order to improve anything and I am not ready for that. I am making plans, however, and one day whatever the final thing is that I need will arrive. I will recognize it immediately, as I did with these glasses. I was just waiting for the last tool that would let me begin my own space.

Here’s to a good view, some wonky tools and a happier future.
